Work that is ethical, sustainable, and grounded in care.
The Last Best Place Counselling is a queer- and trans-led online counselling clinic in British Columbia. We exist to offer affirming therapy to queer, trans, and gender-diverse people.
This page is for registered clinicians who are curious about working with us, now or somewhere down the line.
How We Work
We check in often. We are transparent about how we are marketing for you, and we aim to do that ethically and in a way that aligns with your values.
We genuinely like each other here and are fostering friendship and peer support. We want to support The Last Best Place as a business, and we also want to support your own practice and the things that matter to you.
In practice, that looks like:
- Suggestions from us on how to reach any professional goals you have are always optional. You have the final say on what affects your work.
- We are always researching and exploring what can help us better serve our clients and us as a team and we will share that information with you transparently.
- Changes to fees, splits, or expectations are conversations we can have together. We prioritize our relationship with you and want you to have full autonomy over your practice.
- You can bring new ideas, such as groups, or workshops you want to offer and we can help facilitate that.
- You can say no to anything we offer.
Our Values In Practice
- Queer and trans-led: Clinical and operational decisions are made by people who are part of these communities.
- Anti-oppressive and decolonial: Power, systems, and context are part of the clinical work and part of how the organization is structured.
- Transparency: Clear policies, clear expectations, and clear and honest accountability and care.
- Respect for professional autonomy: You are trusted to practice within your own scope, ethics, and judgment. Your clinical decisions are yours.
Who This Practice Might Fit
You might be a good fit if you:
- Are a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or equivalent, in good standing in British Columbia.
- Practice in ways that are queer- and trans-affirming, trauma-informed, and relational.
- Are comfortable working virtually.
- Value collaboration, accountability, and ongoing learning.
We are especially glad to hear from clinicians who are trans, Two-Spirit, Indigenous, Black, racialized, disabled, neurodivergent, or otherwise underrepresented in this field. If you have been told your way of working is too political, too slow, or you practice in legitimate ways that do not fall under Western “evidence-based” models, you may find more room here.
How We Support Clinicians
- Secure, well-maintained virtual systems.
- Clear administration.
- Supportive onboarding.
- Transparent fee structures and contractor splits with a full breakdown of where the split is going upon request, no explanation needed.
- A culture where questions, feedback, and boundaries are encouraged and supported.
Compensation & Sustainability
We believe ethical care requires ethical working conditions.
- Clinicians are paid through a clear contractor split, and we absorb Jane App’s processing fee.
- Fees are set to support living wages and long-term sustainability, for you as well as the clinic.
- Your time, your boundaries, and your clinical judgment are respected.
Clinical Fit & Approach
Therapists here bring their own styles and modalities. What is shared is a set of commitments:
- Collaborative, consent-based therapy.
- Respect for client autonomy and pacing.
- Attention to power, identity, and context.
- Willingness to reflect on impact, not just intent.
There is no single “right” way to practice here. There is an expectation of care, accountability, and humility.
